Young Generation Core Group
The Core Group includes the most active members of the BNS-YG, thanks to whom all the activities are planned and carried out. The goal of the CG is to choose and set in place interesting workshops, technical visits for the young members of the BNS and strengthening the network.

Lowie Brabants
Academic Liaison
Lowie graduated from Hasselt University as a nuclear engineer with a specialization in environmental chemistry and radiochemistry. He is now working as a PhD researcher at Hasselt University where he is studying non-destructive spectrometry methods for contamination depth profiling of concrete structures.

Đorđe Petrović (aka "Georgie")
BNS representative to IYNC
George obtained his Master’s Degree in Nuclear Engineering at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich, where he dominantly focused on neutron physics of fast reactor systems. He is currently associated with Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK CEN) and is performing his doctoral research in the field of reactor physics and engineering of heavy liquid metal cooled fast reactors, with a particular application to MYRRHA.

Christophe Corazza
Events manager
Christophe obtained his Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering: Reactor Particle Physics in 2018 at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where he focused on heavy liquid metal nuclear reactor core spallation target and coolant technology. Prior to this, he already got a Master in Chemical Engineering and a Master in Civil Engineering at the University of Antwerp and at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel respectively. He is currently doing a doctoral research (PhD) at the KU Leuven, in collaboration with the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre (SCK CEN), related to the engineering of future generation heavy liquid metal fast neutron reactor systems, with a particular application to MYRRHA.

Silvia Fiore
Social media manager
Silvia got her Master’s Degree in nuclear engineering at Politecnico di Torino (Italy) in 2020. Just before graduating, she started working at the Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC) as nuclear inspector for class I nuclear installations, where she also follows the development of different projects.

Florent Callens
Networking Manager
Graduated as a Master in Business Engineer, Florent works as Marketing Manager in the Syscade company. His role is the sales and marketing expansion of Syscade’s new innovative mobile solution for inspection and characterization of nuclear waste. Florent promotes the company by participating in international fairs with his technical colleagues.

Etienne Hoarau
Tractebel Liaison
Nuclear engineer with a Master Degree from the National Institut of Applied Sciences (France). Etienne is currently working, within Tractebel, as technical integrator for the contamination assessment code in the framework of the waste characterisation.

Joris Gackowski
Engie Corporate Liaison
Nuclear engineer by education (Master in medical nuclear engineering and Advanced Master in nuclear reactor physics), Joris is currently working as Senior Nuclear Safety Advisor for ENGIE Electrabel in which he performs Independent Nuclear Safety Oversight (INSO) within areas Radiation Protection, Emergency Preparedness & Response, and Radwaste & Decommissioning as part of the Corporate Health Physics Control.

Bram Mast
Belgoprocess Liaison
Bram Mast graduated in nuclear industrial engineering from Hasselt University and later obtained his PhD in the field of gamma irradiation effects on inorganic polymers. In his current position as R&D engineer at Belgoprocess, he searches for innovative techniques to be implemented in decommissioning and decontamination activities and he supports the development of the decommissioning strategies.

Xavier Van Heule
UK and Academic Liaison
Xavier graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Ghent University in 2016, after which he started working in the Belgian nuclear industry for Tractebel Engie. In 2019 Xavier moved to the UK where he is currently working on a PhD at the University of Bristol investigating methods for measuring residual stress in spent fuel cladding.
