Un demi siècle de nucléaire en Belgique

This BNS publication was initiated in 1986, later on released with the help of the French-speaking community in Belgium and the national fund for scientific research (FNRS). It is a story-telling, testimony-based publication that does not exclude the expected rigor for scientific manuscripts. A group of 20 BNS volunteers participated to the project, which was finalized by three main authors; Paul Govaerts, André Jaumotte and Jacques Vanderlinden.

Position paper about the nuclear phase-out in Belgium

Already in 2017, our Society issued a position paper on the potential nuclear phase-out decided by the authorities. This paper, approved by the whole Society within its General Assembly of 2017, is still valid in the current conditions.

The electronic edition is available on the website in French, Dutch and English.

Charles Pecher (1913-1941) et le strontium (Sr-89) radioactif

The book by Evelyne Cerf-Pecher, “Charles Pecher (1913 – 1941) et le Strontium Radioactif”, recounts the discoveries, the life and the tragic end of Charles Pecher, Belgian pioneer in nuclear medicine whose work has long been ignored. It is written in French, but a 38 page English short version is included.

The Belgian Nuclear Research centre, SCK CEN, a global player in research and production of radioisotopes and their medical applications, has decided to support the publication of this story, a mixture of science, biography and politics, in order to complete the history of nuclear medicine and thus help to illustrate the pioneering role of Charles Pecher.

The cover letter from SCK CEN can be read here.
