SUMMARY:Scientific Contest 2020
DESCRIPTION:This year, the BNS-YG joins forces with the Belgian Nuclear Research Center SCK•CEN and the Belgian Agency for Radioactive Waste and Enriched Fissile Materials ONDRAF/NIRAS to offer to the young generation a renewed Nuclear Scientific Contest.\nAwards will be granted by these 3 institutions for the best original works related to nuclear science in its broadest sense, whether it is a Master thesis, a PhD work or a scientific paper.\nThe Scientific Contest aims to encourage and reward young scientists or engineers in the nuclear field with money prizes following an oral competition and a poster session. The prizes for this edition will amount to more than 5500 € in total.\nFor more information, please take a look at the official announcement of the joint event.\nPlease log in ( https://bnsorg.be/login/ ) with your BNS member account to get the password for the video recording.\nhttps://vimeo.com/487744449 \nLaureates for the BNS-YG awards\n \nFirst price to Raghda Ramadan\nPaper: “Connexin43 Hemichannel Targeting Alleviates Radiation-Induced Endothelial Cell Damage”\nLink to the poster\n \nSecond prize to Niels Cautaerts\nPaper: “The role of Ti and TiC in Ti-stabilized austenitic steel under ion irradiation”\nLink to the poster\n \nThird prize to Chao Yin\nPaper: “Anisotropy in the hardness of single crystal tungsten before and after neutron irradiation”\nLink to the poster\n \nBest poster prize to Riccardo Rossa\nPaper: “Comparison of machine learning models for the detection of partial defects in spent nuclear fuel”\nLink to the poster\nLaureates for the ONDRAF/NIRAS awards\n \nSouhail Oukil\nThesis: “Evaluation of the Dynamic Rod Worth Measurement technique”\nLink to the poster\n \nJohannes Lips\nThesis: “Antenna Optimization for Plasma Positioning Reflectometry in Blanket-Equipped Tokamaks”\nLink to the poster\nLaureates for the SCK CEN awards\n \nBarale Heddy\nThesis: “Application of the SERPENT2 code to neutronic analyses of the MYRRHA core: a sensitivity approach”\nLink to the thesis\n \nYohannes Molla\nThesis: “OpenMC modelling of the critical MYRRHA configuration: an emphasis on cross-section homogenization”\nLink to the thesis\nOther Candidates\n \nFor the BNS-YG awards: Delphine Hoorelbeke\nPaper: “Cx43 channels and signaling via IP3/Ca2+, ATP and ROS/NO propagate radiation-induced DNA damage to non-irradiated brain microvascular endothelial cells”\nLink to the poster\n \nFor the BNS-YG awards: Bram Mast\nPaper: “The effect of high dose rate gamma irradiation on the curing of Fe-rich inorganic polymers”\nLink to the poster\n \nFor the BNS-YG awards: Ali Muntasir\nPaper: “DNA-Binding of Unphosphorylated Response Regulator AgrR From Cupriavidus Metallidurans Involved in Silver Resistance (Ag-NPs formation)”\nLink to the poster\n \nFor the BNS-YG awards: Riccardo Rossa\nPaper: “Comparison of machine learning models for the detection of partial defects in spent nuclear fuel”\nLink to the poster\n \nFor the BNS-YG awards: Tadeáš Wangle\nPaper: “Morphology dependent sintering path of nanocrystalline ThO2”\nLink to the poster\n \nFor the BNS-YG awards: Marek Beliš\nPaper: “Morphology dependent sintering path of nanocrystalline ThO2”\nLink to the poster\n \nFor the BNS-YG awards: Nancy Wanna\nPaper: “Quantification of U, Pu, Nd & Gd for the characterization of spent nuclear fuel using isotope dilution HPIC-SF-ICP-MS”\nLink to the poster\n \nFor the ONDRAF/NIRAS awards: Toon Van der Veken\nThesis: “Uncertainties on the neutron activation calculations for the reactor pressure vessel wall of Doel 3”\n \nFor the SCK CEN awards: Emily Haemers\nThesis: “Characterisation of tissue damage in a mouse model for pelvic radiotherapy and safety assessment of two potential mitigators, Limnospira indica PCC8005 and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG ATCC 53103”\nLink to the thesis\n \n \nFor the SCK CEN awards: Silvia Fiore\nThesis: “CFD analysis of the effects of a fuel assembly blockage in a liquid metal colled fission reactor”\nLink to the thesis\n \nFor the SCK CEN awards: Joris Gackowski\nThesis: “Comparison of Space Radiation Models and Evaluation of Shielding Efficiency by using the Monte Carlo Code PHITS”\nLink to the thesis\n \n\nFor the SCK CEN awards: Calvin Omari\n\nThesis: “Dashboards for Critical Infrastructure Protection & Risk Management”\nLink to the thesis\n \nFor the SCK CEN awards: Yann Van Royen\nThesis: “The future of Moon spacewalks: next-generation radiation protective spacesuit”\nLink to the thesis\n
