SUMMARY:BNS-EVL-2026: 3 SMR / AMR series February, March and April (1/3)
DESCRIPTION:Lecture 1: Presentation of the European Industrial Alliance of SMRs\nThe presentation reviews the first two years of the European Industrial Alliance on SMRs, highlighting the progress achieved in structuring Europe’s SMR ecosystem, strengthening industrial cooperation, and advancing the work on the different topics covered by the Technical Working Groups.\nBy presenting the main outcomes of the Strategic Action Plan, the presentation will also outline the directions the Alliance is pursuing towards the end of the decade, with the overarching objective of facilitating and accelerating the development, demonstration, and deployment of the first SMR projects in Europe in the early 2030s.\nLecture 2: Building an SMR in Canada\nNuclear industry has unfortunately become known for being delayed and over budget. The industry needs to prove that it can deliver new-build projects on time and on budget. I want to talk to you today about the practical end of deploying SMRs with the dream, of course, is to get to something like CCGT gas generation is today – financeable with private money, with reliable execution, consistent costs.\nOPG has applied four lessons that Geoff wants to talk about with you during the lecture:\n\nWalk before you run – refurbishment projects to Gen-III+ SMRs to Gen-IV reactors and gigawatt-class reactors\nEmphasis on project delivery, including standing up EPO, IPD model\nFleet approach to SMRs to derisk execution of second-of-a-kind (and onward) and lower OM&A costs\nUnlocking private capital – deployment at scale will require nuclear to be bankable\n\nTiming\n18:30: Introduction of the First Lecture18:35: First Lecture Presentation (“Presentation of the European Industrial Alliance of SMRs” by Andrei Goicea)19:05: Introduction of the Second Lecture19:10: Second Lecture Presentation (“Building an SMR in Canada” by Geoffrey Olynyk)19:40: Q&A20:10: Adjourn & Networking Drink\nPresentation material\nPlease log in ( https://bnsorg.be/login/ ) with your BNS member account to get access to the slides.\n
