SUMMARY:A prospect for clean hydrogen by nuclear in Belgium
DESCRIPTION:On 18 March 2022, a political decision has been taken in Belgium to go for long term operation of Doel 4 and Tihange 3 nuclear units for 10 years beyond 2025. At the same time a decision to allocate a multi-annual budget of 100 MEuros over 4 years starting in 2022 to initiate a SMR programme for Belgium has been confirmed.\nThe recent IPCC report underlines the highest urgency to abandon the recourse of fossil fuel to produce electricity and heat and favour the use of clean energy sources. Renewables and nuclear energy have therefore a key role to play in the future energy mix.  Hydrogen may offer an opportunity to help these two sources to work together by easing the needed flexibility to the system. The BNS decided to hold a workshop to learn about and discuss the prospect of clean hydrogen production by nuclear in Belgium. The workshop aims to cover technical, economic and market aspects.\nThe workshop will be divided into 3 parts as described in the timing below and will be moderated by the Executive Committee of the BNS.\nRegistration\nClosed.\n2.13.0.0\n \n
